Lumbertos is my go to for Italian pastries on North Shore. They have great cannoli, their cookies are always great and the pastries are to die for. Service is always friendly and fast.

We had a chance to visit this long-established pastry shop one weekday afternoon in February 2024, and it was a mixed experience. Upon entering, the shop is well-lit, with mirrors and a 70's disco-flare, and there seemed to be a vibrant buzz of activity at the counters and among the people who were enjoying coffee and pastries in the small seating area. Within a few minutes, we were greeted by a lovely young lady at the counter. We took a few minutes to review the items in the cases, but she was patient and helpful when we asked questions. We purchased items strictly from the refrigerated cases for this visit. First up was the napoleon. This was a dessert of delicious, light, boiled custard with added whipped cream, sandwiched between a few layers of delicate, crispy puff pastry dough, and topped with a very thin glaze (or frosting) with swirls of dark chocolate. Overall, not overly sweet, not dry, and it tasted fresh. Our only preference would have been an added thin layer of raspberry preserves to highlight the flavor of the mild-tasting cream--but we understand raspberry is not always called-for in a napoleon. (5 out of 5 stars for the napoleon. An excellent delight!) The next item sampled was the traditional cream eclair. This was an oversized item, with a lovely, fresh, crispy outer pastry shell, filled with boiled custard cream, and topped with a thick strip of firm chocolate ganache. The pastry shell and ganache topping were excellent, but the inedible, boiled egg-custard cream had an off-putting, chemical (or plastic) taste, as if it came from a plastic storage container of some kind. While this custard filling may be something the bakery purchases from another vendor, it's still possible it's made on the premises, but handled or stored improperly in a plastic container until needed. At home, we allow all foods to cool completely before placing it in plastic storage containers. Otherwise, there is risk of plastic/chemical seepage or contamination. (2 out of 5 stars for the eclair--because of the off-tasting custard cream. There's lot's of potential for improvement though--they need to change that custard!) The third item sampled was the rum cake. This was a slice of very little actual cake, but dominated by a large portion of chocolate, rum-flavored boiled cream, and topped with a thick, shortening-based frosting. It's been a while since having this type of pastry, years actually--since the 1970s and the classic Esposito Bakery-Revere. The item seemed fresh, but the rum flavor was rather subtle and bland, and the thick, tasteless frosting was a turn-off. (3 out of 5 starts--this high only because I appreciate a rum pastry offering, which is hard to find these days. There was another rum-flavored cake I could have have tried, but maybe next time!) The last pastry was a delightful slice of carrot cake. This item was a multi-layered, blonde cake, with a cream cheese based filling and frosting. The cake was fresh, light and fluffy and dotted with plump, juicy raisins, but was slightly bland and lacked a bit of punch or spice--it could have used something to allow it to compete a bit more with the stronger-tasting frosting. It was a lovely, fresh cake, however, with a nice, moist texture. The cream cheese frosting seemed rather standard, but was not overly sweetened, and seemed fresh and was smooth. (4 out of 5 stars--only because of a personal preference for slightly more spice of some kind for the cake itself.) Overall, a mixed, but fairly good experience. One must be realistic. Everything can't be perfect in a bakery offering such an incredible multitude of items. With everyone's personal preferences and individual tastebuds, it's hard to please everyone. It's a very subjective thing, and I'm sure you understand that. The counter service was excellent--very sweet, helpful and patient, but the parking was a challenge on a busy, weekday afternoon. I do plan to return to this this bakery, with hopes of trying more items---and the items in the cake case looked AMAZING and were beautifully decorated! I think the North Shore is lucky to have a bakery like this---as they have all slowly disappeared--and this establishment seems to have a wide variety of items that should appeal to most who don't have the time, skill, or energy to bake and create at home. It's very obvious that the owners work extremely hard to please as many consumers as they possibly can. You can't please everybody, all of the time, and nor should it be expected. It's clear to me that this is a labor of love, and the pride these owners have in their business and customer service is evident. As I suggested earlier in my review, I plan to return!

Luberto's is the best bakery in Revere, arguably the Boston area. Others get a lot of attention for being in Boston proper, but nowhere has better chocolate ganache cakes. Usually I'll get brownies, whoopie pies, and half moons to entertain guests or share with family and friends. They also offer decent pizza. Whatever you get, it's not usually busy but if you're planning to go on a holiday, plan far ahead as the line will be out the door. Their location in Revere is really retro looking. There are mirrors everywhere, including the ceiling, and the store itself has been renovated in the past few years. In my experience, it's a great place to bring visitors from outside the country for an authentic American bakery experience. Luberto's is also right across the street from Revere City Hall, which is worth taking a look at if you're visiting the area.

Six years ago, when my oldest son graduated from Tufts, there was a big Cannoli cake from Luberto's at his graduation dinner. Two days ago, we picked up another Cannoli cake from Luberto's for the rehearsal dinner the day before his wedding. It is THAT good!

What a cute and festive pastry shop! I came just before Easter to grab a birthday cake and some desserts. They were incredibly busy with the line to the door on a Saturday afternoon. After perusing through the many options, I got their strawberry shortcake but would have been interested in their tres leches too. There were a ton of individual slices of cakes, pies, tarts, and more. Everything was well packed and dispensed by their kind and patient staff. Would come again and highly recommend others to do the same!
